Essential Japanese Connector Words

1. そして (Soshite) = And

2. それから (Sorekara) = And then

3. また (Mata) = Also

4. も (Mo) = Also / Too

5. でも (Demo) = But

6. しかし (Shikashi) = However

7. けれども (Keredomo) = Yet / Although

8. のに (Noni) = Although / Even though

9. なぜなら (Nazenara) = Because

10. だから (Dakara) = So / Therefore

11. そのため (Sono tame) = Therefore

12. ゆえに (Yue ni) = Therefore (formal)

13. もし (Moshi) = If

14. とき (Toki) = When

15. まえに (Mae ni) = Before

16. あとで (Ato de) = After

17. あいだに (Aida ni) = While

18. それで (Sorede) = Then / So

19. たとえば (Tatoeba) = For example

20. さらに (Sarani) = In addition

Example Sentences
1. 私は日本語を勉強しています。そして、英語も勉強しています。
Watashi wa Nihongo o benkyō shiteimasu. Soshite, Eigo mo benkyō shiteimasu.
I study Japanese, and I also study English.

2. 雨が降っています。だから、家にいます。
Ame ga futteimasu. Dakara, ie ni imasu.
It is raining, so I stay home.

3. 日本へ行きたいです。でも、お金がありません。
Nihon e ikitai desu. Demo, okane ga arimasen.
I want to go to Japan, but I don’t have money.
