Part 10: Phrases for Self-Introduction in Japanese
1. Hello : はじめまして Hajimemashite (Formal & Informal)
You can use #1 only when you meet, speak, or write to someone for the very first time.
2. I am [name]: [name] ともうします [name] to mooshimasu (Formal)
3. I am [name]: [name] といいます [name] to iimasu (Formal)
4. I am [name]: [name] です [name] desu (Formal)
5. I am [name] : おれ or ぼく [name] Ore or Boku [name] (Informal) … Used by male
6. I am [name] : あたし [name] Atashi [name] (Informal) … Used by female
7. I am [place] origin = I’m originally from [place] : (わたしは) [place] しゅっしんです (Watashi wa) [place] shusshin desu. (Formal)
8. I am [occupational name] : (わたしは) [occupational name] です (Watashi wa)
[occupational name] desu. (Formal)
9. I work at [place]. [place] : ではたらいてます [place] de hataraite masu. (Formal)
10. I am employed at [place]: [place] につとめてます [place] ni tsutomete masu. (Formal)
11. I do job at [place]: [place] でしごとをしてます [place] de shigoto o shite masu. (Formal)
12. And you?: [name] さんは? [name]san wa?
Be sure to use the person’s name to address him/her “you.” Please never call the person you just met あなた anata or きみ kimi. You can end up leaving a very bad first impression!
13. Nice to meet you : どうぞよろしくおねがいします。Doozo yoroshiku onegai shimasu. (Formal)
14. Nice to meet you : よろしくおねがいします。Yoroshiku onegai shimasu. (Formal)
15. Nice to meet you: よろしく。Yoroshiku. (Informal)
