がち (gachi)

Meaning: apt to do, tend to do

How to use the:
Verb-ますstem + がちだ
Noun + がちだ

Explain:
Used to express meaningful tendencies, which often happens … and the presentation often tends to be not good.

Example sentences:
1, その作家は、ここ数年病気がちでなかなかまとまった仕事ができないと言っている。
Sono sakka wa, koko sū-nen byōki-gachide nakanaka matomatta shigoto ga dekinai to itte iru.
The writer says that he has been sick for several years and can’t do a good job.

2, 私たちは緊急なものに対しては、すぐ反応しがちだ。
watashitachi wa kinkyuu na mono ni tai shite wa, sugu hannou shi gachi da.
We tend to react to urgent matters.

3, このところ、はっきりしない雲りがちの天気が続いているので、洗濯ものが干せなくて困る。
Kono tokoro, hakkiri shinai kumori-gachi no tenki ga tsudzuite irunode, sentaku mono ga hosenakute komaru.
These days, the weather is abnormal, or the gloom is prolonged, so laundry cannot be dry or bothered

4, じじつ、こんなごく些細なことは、まったく見落としがちですよ。
jijitsu, konna goku sasai na koto wa, mattaku miotoshi gachi desu yo.
As a matter of fact that’s the sort of little detail that’s quite apt to be overlooked.

5, 甘い物はついつい食べ過ぎてしまいがちなので、ダイエット中は気をつけましょう
Amai mono wa tsuitsui tabe sugite shimai-gachinanode, daietto-chū wa ki o tsukemashou
Because sweets tend to eat too much, be careful while dieting

6, 秀一は、いかに自分にうちかとうとつとめても、どうも陰うつで、黙りがちになった。
shuuichi wa, ikani jibun ni uchikatou to tsutomete mo, doumo in’utsu de, damari gachi ni natta.
Though Shuichi tried to control himself, he was gloomy and silent.

Attention:
Similar to the phrase “~ 嫌 い が あ る”
