とうてい (toutei)

Meaning: can’t possibly~; there’s no way~

Explain:
Used to express ideas no matter how the method is taken, no matter how you think, it is impossible, too much power, too much ability, impossible.

Example sentences:
1, うちの息子の実力では、東大合格はとうてい無理だ。
Uchi no musuko no jitsuryokude wa, Tōdai gōkaku wa toutei murida.
With my son’s ability, passing the University of Tokyo is almost impossible.

2, この問題は私にはとうていわからない。
kono mondai wa watashi ni wa toutei wakaranai
This question is far above me.

3, 歴史の長さにおいて、日本の大学は西洋の古い大学にはとうてい及ばない。
Rekishi no naga-sa ni oite, nihon’nodaigaku wa seiyō no furui daigaku ni wa toutei oyobanai.
In terms of history, Japanese universities are far behind the old Western universities.

4, 私にはN1級はとうてい無理です。
Watashi ni wa n1kyuu wa toitei muri desu.
I just can`t take n1 level exam.
