ておく (te oku)

Meaning: to do something in advance (as preparation for something else)

How to use the: Verb (て form) + おく

Explain:
Used to describe the completion of an action or a necessary action before a certain time.
Used to describe the completion of a certain movement necessary to prepare for a later use, or a temporary solution.
Used to describe keeping or maintaining a state.

Example sentences:
1, 日本へ行く前に日本語を習っておくつもりです
Nihon e iku mae ni nihongo o naratte oku tsumoridesu
I’m going to learn Japanese before going to Japan

2, その書類はあとで見ますから、そこに置いておいて下さい。
Sono shorui wa ato de mimasukara, soko ni oite oite kudasai.
I’ll see it later, so leave it there.

3, きみにもコーヒーを注文しておきましたよ。
kimi ni mo koohii o chuumon shite okimashita yo.
I have ordered some coffee for you.

4, このワインは冷たい方がいいから、飲むときまで冷蔵庫にいれておこう。
Kono wain wa tsumetai kata ga īkara, nomu toki made reizōko ni irete okou.
This wine should be cold, so keep it in the refrigerator until you drink it.

5, よし子が遅れて来てもわかるように、伝言板に地図を書いておいた。
Yoshiko ga okurete kite mo wakaru yō ni, dengonban ni chizu o kaite oita.
I wrote a map on the message board so that Yoshiko could still find it, even if it was late.

Attention:
In the spoken word 「~ておきます」 changed into 「~ときます」

お母さんに話しとくね。
Okāsan ni hanashi toku ne.
I will talk to your mother first
