んです (ndesu)

Meaning: to explain something; show emphasis

How to use the: Verb (casual) + んです

Explain:
Used to explain a fact or give a reason

Example sentences:
A – どうしたんですか?元気がありませんね
Dō shita ndesu ka? Genki ga arimasen ne
What is the matter with you? Seems not good

B – ちょっとかぜなんです。
Chotto kazena ndesu.
I’m sick

A – どうしてさっき　ワンー　さんとしゃべらなかったの?
Dōshite sakki wan̄-san to shaberanakatta no?
Why didn’t you talk to Mr. Wang this time?

B – あの人はちょっと苦手なんです。
Ano hito wa chotto nigatena ndesu.
Because I’m shy to talk to him

Attention:
It’s a polite form of 「んだ」. Also saying 「のです」

1, あまりおいしかったんで、全部食べてしまった。
Amari oishikattande, zenbu tabeteshimatta.
Because It was so delicious that I accidentally ate it all

2, 遅くなってすみません、途中で渋滞に巻き込まれてしまたのです。
Osoku natte sumimasen, tochū de jūtai ni makikoma rete shimata nodesu.
Sorry for being late, I was caught in a traffic jam on the way.
