きり (kiri)

Meaning: only, just, since, after

How to use the:
Verb-casual + きり/っきり
Noun + きり/っきり

Explain:
Describe the incident after it happened, and the situation did not change and the situation remained the same. The incident happened as expected and unexpectedly.

Example sentences:
1, 彼は卒業して日本を出ていったきり、もう5年も帰ってこない。
Kare wa sotsugyō shite Nihon o dete itta kiri, mō 5-nen mo kaettekonai.
He graduated and left Japan, and hasn’t come back for five years.

2, それからいままでハルミがひとりきりになったことは何度となくあった。
sore kara ima made harumi ga hitori kiri ni natta koto wa nando tonaku atta.
Harumi’s been on his own plenty of times since.

3, あの方とは一度お会いしたきり(で)、その後、会っていません
Ano hō to wa ichido o ai shita kiri (de), sonogo,-kai tte imasen
I’ve met that person once but haven’t seen it since then

4, 一度きりの人生を大切に生きることだ。
ichido kiri no jinsei o taisetsu ni ikiru koto da.
We should cherish our lives because we only live once.
